Meet Eric

Dr. Eric Richardson is a clinical psychologist with a PhD from Wichita State University and advanced training in CBT, ACT, Primary Care Psychology, CBT‑I, and CBT‑CP. He has served Veterans across the Mountain West through the VA, supervised doctoral interns and practicum students, taught physicians motivational interviewing, and completed FAA trainings required for Aviation Psychologists along with additional FAA programs. Eric also serves as the Medical Committee Chair for PMHC. Licensed in 43 states, he provides evidence‑based care for adults facing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep difficulties, chronic pain, substance use patterns, and general wellbeing, offering a values‑focused approach that builds psychological flexibility and resilience for clients both within and outside the aviation community. 

Professional Bio:

Dr. Eric Richardson earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Wichita State University, with specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for adults. He completed his internship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and the Oklahoma City VA Consortium, focusing on Primary Care Psychology. Since then, he has been serving Veterans through the VA—first providing virtual care to rural communities across the Mountain West, and now practicing at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center.

Eric is committed to strengthening the next generation of clinicians and has supervised both doctoral interns and practicum students. He has also provided training in motivational interviewing to physicians and completed VA‑recognized specialty trainings in CBT for Insomnia and CBT for Chronic Pain.

In addition to his clinical work, Eric has pursued advanced training in aviation psychology including becoming an FAA designated Aviation Psychologist. He currently serves as the Medical Committee Chair for PMHC, contributing to broader efforts to promote safe, accessible, and effective mental health care for aviation personnel.

Eric founded VFR Wellness to offer evidence‑based, values‑driven mental health services to individuals nationwide. While he provides specialized support to pilots and aviation professionals, his work extends broadly to adults navigating concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep difficulties, chronic pain and illness, substance use patterns, and general wellbeing. Licensed in Colorado and Wyoming Eric can provide telehealth services in 43 states. Eric uses CBT and ACT to help clients reduce symptoms, build psychological flexibility, and strengthen resilience.
